The composite is placed in layers and a specialized light is typically used to harden each of the layers which bond to your tooth, supporting the tooth structure which remains and helping to prevent breakage as well as to insulate the tooth against extremely high or low temperatures.
When the composite restoration process is complete, the dentist shapes the composite to fit the particular tooth being fixed. The newly-placed composite is then polished to prevent early wear or staining. A clear plastic coating can also be placed over the composite to help prevent color change from tooth-staining foods.
